Philip specializes in oil painting and the use of its traditional techniques, choosing portraiture and the human figure to be his preferred subject matter. Philip has a profound interest in the chiaroscuro technique and its use by the old masters, as he believes that if done right, its aesthetics help to create an exaggerated sense of drama, while establishing a level of intimacy with the viewer. His current body of work consists of contemporary scenarios and the utilization of technology in contemporary life. He believes that we live the chiaroscuro lighting every day when devices such as mobiles and laptops become the sole light source in particular environments. His current project aims to question today’s (over)use of communication devices.
