This documentary project aims to analyse the taboo behind several abuses against females such as catcalling and rape. By looking at how the majority of these cases go un-reported, ‘The Weight of Their Silence’ represents the notion of shame that is tied to a victim’s silence. The victim’s silence comes from a victim-blaming society, leading to the consequence that abuse cases are still on the rise and ignored. The project looks at using objects, artefacts and text seen in several abuse cases, with the aim of engaging the viewer to reflect and consider the victim’s point of view without the identity of the victim leading to assumptions.
