Enya’s collection titled ‘Grotesque’ is inspired primarily by the Maltese carnival costume. The designs explore the reign of folly and the grotesque, and aim to question the idea of ‘where do costumes and fashion meet?’. Past as well as present Maltese carnival costumes are investigated and explored, and then used as a reference for the creation of conceptual design as a key to unlocking possible ideas for upcoming fashion trends. The collection presents designs, resembling carnival costumes. The concept is reflected through the colours, materials, shapes, and forms which are all akin to what one would be familiar with when visiting Maltese carnival.
