Karl’s artworks explore the theme of human and animal hybridity. Ever since he was a teenager, Karl was fascinated by both real and mythical animals. His interest in strange creatures, and the mythical hybridity between human and animal, gradually became central to his visual art practice. His last projects focus on the study of skeletons, both human and animal, and strive to amalgamate them into new fictional creatures. Extinct and living creatures are given new life in Karl’s works, defying any sense of time. While his art has roots in the long tradition of mythology, it also evokes elements of surrealism. Karl prefers to make use of reductive drawing using charcoal as his preferred medium.
